The 27th Ábalos Open Day 2024 takes place on September 7th. At Bodegas Solana de Ramírez, we want to celebrate one of the most special days in our town. This year’s event also coincides with the first day of the patron saint festivities in honor of the Virgen de la Rosa.
Last year was affected by rain, and some activities had to be suspended or relocated to other venues.
This year we hope the weather will be good for a day that the entire town of Ábalos will be involved in and that the Ábalos Women’s Association will be organizing with such care: https://mujeresdeabalos.es/
In this post, we detail the following activities being organized:
- Visits to the Garrido and Casa Mari Cruz museums, the Church of San Esteban, and the 17th Century Winery.
A tourist train stops at the wineries, making it easy to explore the town with the little ones. - On the cultural side, there’s a screening of the “Rock-Cut Wine Presses in Sonsierra Riojana” by Salvador Velilla. For those unfamiliar with a wine press and how they worked, this is a perfect opportunity to learn about them and see a traditional wine treading process in person.
- In addition, we offer an introductory wine tasting workshop led by Pedro Salguero at the town hall, and tastings with musical accompaniment in the park.
- There will also be a market selling traditional and artisan foods and a food truck to fill the stomachs of those who aren’t careful and don’t grab a sandwich.
- It’s undeniable that music is fundamental when it comes to wine, and for that, we have the Tarumba percussion band that parades through the town at 7 p.m., and a brass band that livens up the street atmosphere. You have to visit the nine wineries participating in the open house!
In the case of Bodegas Solana de Ramírez, it’s a special occasion to taste their wines and be face-to-face with Valvanera, Javier, Romualdo, Javi, and Vicente. They’ll explain how they make their wines, and you can talk with Álvaro about the development of the grapes in the field and all the work that goes into producing high-quality wines.
