Family, passion and tradition

Welcome to our winery — from now on, it’s yours too. We are the Ramírez de la Piscina Ruiz family from Ábalos, a charming village in the heart of the D.O.Ca Rioja, within the Rioja Alta subzone. Nestled at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria, Ábalos is a magical place, blessed with a unique terroir ideal for growing vines and crafting quality wines.

Here, our family has cultivated vineyards and made wine for centuries. A tradition passed down from generation to generation — one we proudly preserve today by honoring our family’s origins, upholding the values of the D.O.Ca Rioja, and respecting the environment and nature that surround us.

The Winery

We are a family winery, and you’ll always find us here — welcoming visitors, making wine, or looking up to the sky and the sun, wondering if it’s the right moment to begin the harvest .

Our winery, built in sandstone, reproduces the characteristic aesthetics of the area and integrates perfectly and harmoniously with the landscapes and monuments of Ábalos.

At the beginning of the 21st century, the Solana de Ramírez Ruiz family undertook one of the most ambitious projects in its recent history: the expansion and improvement of the winery’s facilities.

To do this, we introduced technology that allows us to produce wines of the highest quality but always maintaining those elements that allow us to do so in the traditional way.

Taking advantage of the natural slope of the terrain, we managed to keep our building underground in all its parts except one (entrance), achieving an optimum temperature in a natural way in our winery and barrels.
The grapes enter the winery by gravity and without pressure to the tanks.
We work in the winery respecting to the maximum our raw material, and elaborating our wines in a respectful way.

Winemaking

We produce around 400,000 or 500,000 bottles per year.

We produce red, white and rosé wine. All our grapes come from the family vineayrds, as we own 60 hectares of vineyards.

Our wines are crafted with meticulous artisan care, yielding naturally authentic and distinguished expressions that embody the essence of our land and the heritage of D.O.Ca Rioja.

Grapes moved by gravity thanks to the location of the winery.

Without pressure, the grapes reach the tank whole.

There they ferment and macerate for 15 to 20 days.

In this way we manage to extract the maximum tannins, polyphenols, anthocyanins, coloring matter and antioxidants (such as resveratrol, quercetin…) found in the grape skins.
