Viñedos en Ábalos
At Bodegas Ramírez de Solana, we have been making white wine since 2007, being pioneers in our area. Over the years, we have evolved and incorporated new oenological proposals that will delight white wine enthusiasts.
Solana de Ramírez 2023 white wine, chosen by Tim Atkin as the Best Quality-Price Rioja White Wine in 2022 and 2023, has a coupage formed by Viura and Malvasía in 85% and by Sauvignon Blanc and Verdejo in 15%.

We complete our range with Valsarte – White Wine Fermented in Barrels, a limited production with hints of wood.

Characteristics of our Rioja white wine

Solana de Ramírez produces its Rioja white wine at its winery in Ábalos (La Rioja). The Solana de Ramírez white wine is a fresh, floral and fruity wine ideal to enjoy before meals, with appetizers, salads or fish and seafood.
Capricho de Valvanera is sweet, easy to drink, with a touch of tropical fruits. It goes well with a wide range of dishes, from cheeses, foie gras to pickles.

Valsarte blanco is totally different from the two previous wines, as it has a vanilla touch and very mild yeasts due to its fermentation in barrels.

White wine made at our winery in Ábalos

Our white wines Solana de Ramírez, Blanco Semidulce Capricho de Valvanera and Valsarte Blanco Fermentado en Barrica are made in our family winery in the heart of the Rioja Sonsierra, at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria.

We make white wine from different varieties grown on the family estate: Viura, Sauvignon Blanc, Malvasía and Verdejo are the grapes we use to make our wines, always respecting tradition and introducing the necessary technological advances to guarantee the maximum quality of our wines.

Solana de Ramírez white wine: the best value for money

Or at least that’s what Tim Atkin, one of the world’s most renowned wine critics, thinks, who has awarded this prize in his Rioja Report in 2022 and 2023 to our Rioja white wine.

Capricho de Valvanera, a semi-sweet white wine

A semi-sweet white wine is a wine that contains a moderate amount of residual sugar, which gives it a slightly sweet taste.

This type of wine usually has a balanced acidity that counteracts the sweetness, resulting in a fresh and pleasant taste. They are versatile wines and can pair well with a wide variety of dishes, especially those with spicy or savoury touches.

White grape varieties in Rioja: in search of the perfect blend

Viura, Sauvignon Blanc, Malvasía and Verdejo are the white grape varieties we use to make our Rioja white wine.

In each wine we opt for a different blend, seeking to enhance the characteristics of each of them in order to find the perfect balance.

Why choose Solana de Ramírez white wine?

For its value for money, for its aroma, for its unmistakable yellowish colour, for the care with which it is made.
There are many reasons to take home a wine that even Tim Atkin himself has praised.

Selected harvest

Each bunch of grapes is carefully selected in the vineyard at the time of harvesting, guaranteeing that the grapes used to make the wine will be those of the highest quality in terms of ripeness, size, color and general appearance.

Harvesting by hand

The grapes are carefully selected in the vineyard and harvested by hand to guarantee their quality.

Prensado de las uvas

Una vez finalizada la fermentación alcohólica, se prensa el hollejo para extraer el vino restante.

Racking of the must into tanks

A “crucial step in winemaking”. The must from the pressing of the grapes is transferred to fermentation tanks.

De-sludge or clarification

Solid particles are removed from the must before fermentation to achieve a clean must, better fermentation, and a wine of greater quality and stability.

Fermentation in tanks for 10 or 15 days

The must ferments at a controlled temperature for about 10 to 15 days, allowing the sugars to transform into alcohol and the aromas and flavors of the white wine to develop.

Clarification and filtration

Suspended particles are removed from the wine to obtain a clean and bright final product.

Bottling

The wine is bottled using high quality cork stoppers.
